The Way's
Fifth Sunday Offerings Ministry -
Megan Ammann, a regular
visitor to The Way and second-year seminary student at Brite
Divinity School will be our guest on Sunday, March 30th.
She will preach about hunger and poverty in the United
States—especially in our very own community. As this is a Fifth
Sunday, please bring an offering of non-perishable food items to
be given to a local food bank.
Communities In Schools Dallas Region Seeking
Volunteers
With the help of community
volunteers, CISDR has been serving students across the Dallas
region providing individualized academic support, training,
prevention and early intervention services in the school setting
to more than 375,000 students over the past 23 years. Volunteers
spend one hour a week tutoring students or serving as mentors to
provide the vital one-on-one relationship with a caring adult
that some children often are lacking in their lives. One time
volunteer opportunities are also available to help with special
events or to be program speakers.
During the 2006-2007 school year, CISDR provided direct
individual support to 7,827 students and other services to more
than 29,000 at-risk students and their families across the
region. Of these students, 98% stayed in school rate; 90%
improved in academics, behavior and/or attendance; and 90% of
eligible seniors graduated.
To volunteer, call Carolyn Bullard at 214-827-0955 ext 229 or
email her at carolynb@cisdallas.org
Past Missions
Friends of Hope Day
Camp - February 2
On Saturday, February 2nd,
The Way and Northway did something
great. We shared in a day that was life-giving and
life-changing for all involved. Friends of Hope is a day
camp for survivors of brain injury through Baylor Hospital’s
Institute for Rehabilitation. Our own Sean Carter is part
of Friends of Hope, and we hosted the gathering
at our church.
Dr. Mary Carlile, of the Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation,
started Friends of Hope in 2005 as a way to get the community
more involved with the survivors of brain injury. Their mission
is to “unite the community and brain injury survivors in a
faith-based atmosphere, providing support and information to
encourage a vision of hope.” That is what we will do together
on February 2nd.
Our day will started with a blessing and a light breakfast.
Then we moved on to singing, testimonials, games, crafts, and
more table fellowship during lunch. One of the hallmarks of the
Friends of Hope day camp is that volunteers are paired with
campers throughout the day. This is when the camp lives up to
its name as friendships are formed and hope grows.
Chances are we will do
this again, so you can plan now to be part of our next Friends
of Hope team.
Family Gateway - Sunday, December 30th
The Way brought diapers,
formula and other baby supplies to be given to
Family Gateway as our Fifth Sunday Offering.
Family Gateway has served families in crisis in Dallas County
since 1986. They provide transitional housing, counseling,
training, and a comprehensive continuum of services to families
with children experiencing homelessness. Their ministry
restores dignity, stability, and self-sufficiency to the
families they serve.
Adam’s Animals
- July 29, 2007
On July 29, The Way continued our Fifth Sunday Offerings by collecting
new stuffed animals for
Adam’s Animals. All children hospitalized in
the Dallas area receive an Adam’s Animals to comfort them while
they are away from home.
Communities in Schools - April
29, 2007
On April 29 we will collected school supplies,
prayed over them, and donated them to Communities in Schools.
Share an
Hour... Shape a Life
Would you be
willing to give one hour a week to change the life of a child?
Volunteer as a tutor or mentor for a child in elementary, middle
or high school - for one hour a week and you can help shape a
child's life. Opportunities to volunteer are offered through
Communities in Schools Dallas Region, Inc. in 57 schools on
Dallas, Collin and Ellis counties.
During the 2005-2006 academic year, CISDR provided one-on-one
case management to 6,848 students. Of those students, 98% stayed
in school, 90% improved their academics, attendance and/or
behavior, and 90% of eligible seniors graduated.
Volunteers can provide academic support, encouragement, and a
listening ear to at risk children in our communities. Helping a
child can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.
Jesus showed us the value God places on children in Mark
10:13-16, where He rebuked the disciples for trying to keep the
children from Him and said, "to such belongs the kingdom of
God." As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are called to reach out
to the children in our communities.
If you would like to part of a group project, consider
volunteering at their annual Gala on Saturday, May 19 at the
Hilton Anatole Hotel. This year’s theme is “HOORAY FOR
HOLLYWOOD, A Red Carpet Affair.” The Communities in Schools
volunteers are needed to help set up for on Saturday afternoon.
Volunteers will also be needed during the event itself. Dinner
will be provided! Members of The Way community
are encouraged to volunteer as your schedule allows. This will
be a fun way to work together as we meet our goal of serving
Communities in Schools with our time, talent, and treasure.
If you would like to volunteer or for more information about
Communities in Schools
Dallas call Carolyn
B., Volunteer/Community Relations Manager at 214.827.0955 ext

Jarvis
Christian College - July 28-30, 2006
Phase II of our Centennial Celebration
Jarvis, located 96 miles from Dallas, is a small private,
four-year, historically black, fully accredited, liberal arts
institution. Our goal is for 100 of us to travel to Jarvis the
weekend of July 28-30. This will be a partnership event with a
team from Jarvis matching most of the Northway teams. During
this all-church work weekend, we will be preparing an unoccupied
men's dorm for occupancy this fall. Come for a day or the whole
weekend, but please lend a hand. Sign up sheets are at the
welcome center. Room and board is provided.
